Damon Runyon Essay

Damon Runyon was an American short-story writer, journalist, and humorist considered by some to be one of the world's greatest writers. Runyon's short stories are told in the first person by a protagonist who is never named, and whose role is unclear; he knows many gangsters and does not appear to have a job, but he does not admit to any criminal involvement, and seems to be largely a bystander. He describes himself as "being known to one and all as a guy who is just around". His syndicated column, featuring celebrated

HOW THE STUDY WAS DONE For the study, which was conducted over a four-year period, 270 researchers repeated experiments that were documented in academic psychology journals. And when 36% of the repeated experiments arrived at similar conclusions to the originals, the “decline effect” - in which support decreases for the original scientific claims - was present. Reproducibility is often considered as a necessary feature of reliable research; if a study cannot be replicated, then its findings are usually considered to be questionable.…

Specifically, he explored themes of cultural chauvinism, political inequity, and ethnicity. He refused to accept the false Black/White dichotomy of race in the Caribbean, centralizing ethnicity in his work, he himself was of African and European descent, in and of itself revealing the complexities of postcolonial life in the Caribbean (Akpan; Campbell). He also understood that though English was deployed as his native tongue, once even having said he received “a very good English education” in his mother country, it was ultimately a tool of imperialism.…
