Dally Caring In The Outsiders

Improved Essays
Hard yet Caring Have you ever thought of someone as being hard and caring at the same time? The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about the Greasers not getting along with Socs because of the stereotyping they do against each other. They live in Oklahoma, the Socs live on the West side and the Greasers live on the East side. One character that stands out in the story is Dally because he is the only person in this book to be hard and soft at the same time. Dally had some internal as well as external conflicts going on like not being able to go to the rumble (internal, Man vs. man), or needing Johnny to live (internal). Dally can be described as caring, wild, and hard.
Dally can be described as caring for many reasons. One example, Dally did not want Johnny to end up hard like he was. On page ninety, it says”You get hardened in jail. I don’t want that to happen to you. Like it happened to me…” This shows that Dally loves Johnny and does not want him to end up like himself. Another example, when Johnny was in the hospital Dally wanted him to live. On page 149 it says” Damnit, Johnny…” he begged, slamming one fist against the wall, hammering it to make it obey his will. “Oh, damnit, Johnny, don’t die, please

In one instance Dally didn’t give a Yankee dime about anyone but himself, and he was cold and hard and mean. On page ninety, it says he never talked about his past or being in jail, if he talked about it at all it was to brag. It is apparent that Dally doesn’t love much at all. In another event that makes you think that Dally is hard is when they are at the movies and he keeps taunting the girls, and will not stop. On page twenty-one, it says Dally merely looked at her and kept his feet where they were. “Who’s gonna make me?” Therefore Dally doesn’t care what they think of him, he likes messing with people and does not care if it makes than feel bad. So it is clear that Dallas Winston is hard as hard can

In the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, the two characters who seem to have nothing in common with each other, are more alike than you may think. But along with some similarities, a few differences come to mind. Differences such as how Johnny sees the good in the world while Dally can’t, and how Johnny is a law abiding person and Dally isn’t. Some things they have in common are that both Johnny and Dally put little value on their lives and they both have abusive and negligent parents.…

One of the main factors from stress could've easily been fighting and arguments with his gang of Greasers and Socs. On page 131 Ponyboy said "I knew he would be dead because, Dally Winston wanted to be dead and he always got what he wanted." In this quote it is saying how Dally wanted to die. There are several reasons for why he might want to die but in my opinion the pressure of Greasers vs. Socs was a component in his death. Stress can very much wear a person down to where being gone may make him feel like it's the only…

Like Dally fights just to relieve stress, his parents don't care, which makes him jealous of what Pony has and how much Darry cares about him. This shows in Dally's attitude at the drive in when he starts being rude towards the girls who are innocently sitting there watching the movie. I think he is so used to getting everything he wants including the girls Cherry's refusal comes as a surprise to him. He thinks he can do whatever he wants and get what he wants. Because of Greasers like Dally the Socs judge all of them and make assumptions that they all act that way, which is wrong.…

Shirley Jackson’s short story, “ The Possibility of Evil,” is a great way to show that you should always treat others with kindness. Miss Strangeworth is a lay who thinks she owns a town, is sweet in person, but writes “secret” letters that criticize the way people live. Miss Strangeworth’s character can be analyzed be considering what she does, what the narrator says about her, and how other characters interact with her.…

He didn’t make a sound, but tears were running down his cheeks. I hadn’t seen him cry in years, not even when Mom and Dad were killed” (Hinton,98). Darry, Sodapop, and Ponyboy are three brothers who lost their parents in a car crash.
