Sitting in the confines of the Miller's Ale House in Tallahassee, I positioned myself in perfect position: on the outside seat of the long, wood bench seat in perfect view of the matchup between the undefeated Green Bay Packers -- my team -- and the San Diego Chargers. In closer proximity was my feast. Nachos piled high with cheese, sour cream, jalapenos, chicken and salsa; cheese curds, a Wisconsin favorite and a tall glass of Angry Orchard hard cider. I set my self up dressed in my old-school, long-sleeved Ray Nietzsche jersey in honor of the throwback jerseys the Pack was wearing from the 1930's and 40's. Soon kick off was upon us.…
Without Dez Bryant, the Dallas Cowboys' offense has been crippled In hopes to improve an offense that’s struggling, the Dallas Cowboys, who’ve been snake bitten with injuries, have made a change at quarterback. Without quarterback Tony Romo, their four-time Pro Bowler and all-time franchise leading passer, the Cowboys were forced to roll with the arm of backup Brandon Weeden, after Romo fractured his left clavicle against the Eagles in Week 2. In three starts, Weeden completed 71 of 98 attempts, completing 72.4 percent of his passes. That looks sexy on paper, but with Weeden under center, Dallas’ passing game didn’t generate plays beyond intermediate distances to stretch opposing defenses for big plays.…
The Washington redskins has been a national football team since 1932. "Redskins" is a a name used originally by native Americans, and also approved by local natives. I believe the redskins name shouldn't be changed because the name gives pride and honor to the redskins tribe. Charles Krauthammer states how years ago, the word "retarded" was simply a word meaning idiotic, but was made into a derogatory term used against the disabled. So the issue is not the team name itself but the ability to change the name.…
It seems to be do or die for the Cowboys as they head into their much needed BYE week. The Cowboys have had quite the heart wrenching season so far, and that is putting it mildly. Week one the Cowboys suffered the loss of their star wideout in Dez Bryant. As if this wasn't devastating enough the very next week, their playmaker and heart of the offense Tony Romo went during the third quarter resulting in a broken clavicle. So there they were.…
NFL football is one of America’s favorite past times. Every Sunday in the fall millions of fans pile into stadiums across the country to with hope that their team has a successful season, and can hopefully go all the way and reach the Super Bowl. Cleveland Browns fans hope for this every year, but are let down again and again. At the time of writing this essay the Cleveland Browns are 0-12 and are well on their way to being winless. If they can’t manage to win a game they will be only the second team in NFL history to go 0-16 in a single season.(Gardner)…
The glory days of the cowboys was but a small one, hardships would soon fall in the form of big swimming and buffalo chips. After the invention of barbed-wire in the 1880’s, long drive was introduced (Background Essay). With five million longhorns unbranded and unclaimed, ex-soldiers, vaqueros, and some Native Americans rounded the cattle up and begun the trestrus four month journey from Texas to the far away states of Kansas and Wyoming (Document A). Despite the raw adventure the cattlemen experienced, death and complications arose. Once the expedition was over and done with many cattlemen were faced with the question: Will I be willingly do this all over again?…
Felicia Rollberg November 29th 2015 Conflict Paper Washington Redskin Name Conflict What is in a name? A name can define who we believe we are, it can give us something to fight for, and it can unite people together. For the National Football League’s Washington Redskins they will have to fight for their name if they aim to keep it. It will not be a fight easily won however as the Oneida Indian Nation, and the National Congress of American Indians as well as several tribes across the country are doing all they can to force a name change on the grounds that the name is a racial slur and is highly offensive to the Native American people.…
What do you think of the word Redskins? Redskins is the name given to the Washington DC football team to represent a Native American mascot. This topic has been controversial for years now as the term is discriminating against Native Americans. Many have agreed upon the NFL dropping the name. Yet, some believe that the name gives respect to the Natives and wants to keep the name as showing honor to them.…
The word “redskins” is offensive. According to Dictionary.com the word redskin means, “A contemptuous term used to refer to a North American Indian.” The logo and mascot of the football team, the Washington Redskins, is a Native American man. While it is not right to use an offensive word for a team’s name, it is not immoral. If something is offensive, it doesn’t automatically make it immoral.…
Hate. Now that’s a powerful word ever since I was a child my mom always told me not to use the word “hate” because it was a strong word but I never truly knew the why it was so bad. Then I discoverd the definition myself when I went to my first Jet football game with my dad and brothers. The Jets, they were the best team in the world (well in my own eyes).…
Tom Brady’s Life in the NFL One of the big names of the National Football League, and the biggest face of the New England Patriots organization, is Tom Brady. Brady, whom is one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks is commonly recognized in a lot of different ways. The many mixed emotions about Brady oppose to his abilities on the field, are a concern to many, and amazing to the others. He is pointed at as the greatest quarterback of all time, a cheater, a cry baby, a celebrity, and a role model for many. In my eyes, he is hands down the greatest quarterback to ever touch a football field.…
Carolina Panthers quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Cam Newton continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons. After the Panthers’ much-needed 30-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals this past Sunday, Newton threw down the gauntlet against NFL officiating crews for putting his safety in jeopardy with missed calls on questionable hits. However, Newton’s claims have already been debunked. Henceforth, he should focus on adjusting his game to mitigate the hits he does experience instead of looking for someone to blame.…
While there are many more annoying types of NFL fans out there these four take the cake. These fans aren't just limited to the teams that I have named. These annoying fans can be found in any stadium, sports bar, or game day party across America. They jump from team to team, they bring up the past, they yell for no real reason, and they always whine like god has something against their team, and that is why these fans are by far the most annoying football fans to watch the great sport that is…
From a young age, I always loved playing football; being out on the field is one of the best feelings ever. The adrenaline, hearing the crowd cheering, scoring touchdowns; it a rush that goes through my veins and I cannot get enough of it. I would play because I enjoyed it, but I had no idea how the simple game of football would change my life for the better. Growing up I used to see my friends come home from little league practice everyday on school days and that really used to make me mad. They used to get home when the street lights were on and we were not able to come outside and play at that time.…
