In an interview on KRLD-FM 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that Romo would remain on the active roster when they open the season against the New York Giants this Sunday. Jones added that he was “not really” interested in placing Romo on injured reserve, which would sideline the quarterback for the first half of the Cowboys’ regular season.

Prescott’s play in the preseason definitely surpassed all expectations, as he completed 39 of 50 passes (78 percent) for 454 yards with five touchdowns thrown and two rushing touchdowns. The former Mississippi State quarterback also didn’t thrown an interception in the preseason.
Prescott is still a rookie, who for the majority of his preseason playing time competed against practice squad players and backups. However, Dallas has done a good job of putting Prescott in situations that cater to his strengths rather than his weakness, such as rolling him out of the pocket and mainly putting him in the shotgun.
Still, Dallas needs to be careful not to fall in love with Prescott’s preseason hype as it won’t necessarily equate to regular season success. It’s all about development for Prescott, which in Dallas’ defense he seems to be accomplishing. Opponents could force the rookie quarterback to beat them with his arm by stacking the box with extra defenders in hopes of limiting the success of the Cowboys’ rushing attack.
