Dallas Cowboys Case Study

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo suffered a fractured bone in his back as he tired to make a play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3 of the preseason. Reportedly, the injury could keep him out for six to 10 weeks of the regular season.

In an interview on KRLD-FM 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that Romo would remain on the active roster when they open the season against the New York Giants this Sunday. Jones added that he was “not really” interested in placing Romo on injured reserve, which would sideline the quarterback for the first half of the Cowboys’ regular season.

"We don't have a situation on the 53,” Jones said on KRLD-FM. “This isn't an active roster, day-game situation. He won't be active.

Prescott’s play in the preseason definitely surpassed all expectations, as he completed 39 of 50 passes (78 percent) for 454 yards with five touchdowns thrown and two rushing touchdowns. The former Mississippi State quarterback also didn’t thrown an interception in the preseason.

Prescott is still a rookie, who for the majority of his preseason playing time competed against practice squad players and backups. However, Dallas has done a good job of putting Prescott in situations that cater to his strengths rather than his weakness, such as rolling him out of the pocket and mainly putting him in the shotgun.

Still, Dallas needs to be careful not to fall in love with Prescott’s preseason hype as it won’t necessarily equate to regular season success. It’s all about development for Prescott, which in Dallas’ defense he seems to be accomplishing. Opponents could force the rookie quarterback to beat them with his arm by stacking the box with extra defenders in hopes of limiting the success of the Cowboys’ rushing attack.

While Dallas also signed Mark Sanchez this week in case Prescott struggles or suffers an injury of his own, the Cowboys are confident Romo will be back by mid-season or sooner. However, this is the NFL and nothing is

With his ability to throw the ball downfield, accurate on his throws, calm in the pocket, and the ability to run with the ball when pressure comes or no wide receivers are open, no wonder why San Francisco paid him so much. In the last year of his 4 year rookie deal, Garoppolo who was still in New England at the time was asking for a big payday and a starting job. With Tom Brady planning to play for a few more years, after looking at how much he is getting paid, the Patriots did the right thing by trading him for a second round pick rather than let him walk in free agency and get nothing back for him.…

Pryor is somewhat at a standstill in his career, but not necessarily in a bad way. Contractually, he is on a 1-year deal, also known as the “prove it” deal. Cleveland had offered Pryor a multi-year deal, instead he turned it down thinking he’s worth more than that annually. So taking the 1-year deal here in Washington, with a better situation offensively, he’s banking on his abilities as a 3 year wide out. If his 2017 is similar or even better than his 2016 in Cleveland, the Redskins will be eager to keep Pryor in…

The Buccaneers haven’t exactly kept it a secret that they will spend a lot of time this season running a no-huddle, hurry-up offense. Second year quarterback Jameis Winston and the Bucs offense put together their best game of the preseason against the Cleveland Browns when Tampa ran out of the no-huddle every play the starters were on the field. Head coach Dirk Koetter surely couldn’t expect to use the hurry-up approach that much in a regular season game, could he? Winston and the offense have all said they would rather operate out of the no-huddle system.…

There is always drama and suspense leading up to National Signing Day which has become the most important day to college football teams all around the country but that wasn't the case this afternoon for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Today saw Coach Holgorsen and his staff sign every committed player that was expected to sign, sign with the Mountaineers. West Virginia failed to sign a quarterback in this class which concerns some fans but don't forget that WVU has Will Grier (JR), Chris Chugunov (SO), and Cody Saunders (FR). There is youth at the position but as we have seen before you can never have enough experience at the quarterback position. Two strengths that West Virginia walked away with in this class are defensive line and defensive backfield which should make defensive coordinator Tony Gibson a very happy man.…

It could and should be a lot more but Winston's and Desean Jackson's chemistry just isn't quite where it needs to be. In the last few weeks, Winston has either underthrown or even sometimes overthrown Jackson (which I didn't think was possible).…

If you woke up Thursday morning and were freaked out by the reports that four Ohio State players had been suspended for the season opener against Virginia Tech, then you should go back to bed, lay down and take a nap, because this isn't much of a headline. First off, clearly the biggest loss is Joey Bosa, a possible number one overall pick, and the leader of the Ohio State defense. Yet, with all that being said, the Buckeyes will be able to make it out of one game without Bosa against the team receiving the twenty-ninth most votes in the Amway Coaches Poll, Virginia Tech. Adolphus Washington will likely hold down the defensive line, put he won't be without help.…
