After the world was reduced to this endless wasteland, all of its inhabitants were reduced with it. People deformed into mindless beasts, losing their sense of humanity. If they desired something, they would simply kill anyone they needed to get it. Dale was an exception. He had persisted through this change, keeping control of his mind and his principles. The dry, desolate desert stretched out beyond him. Nothing but red-brown dirt for miles. no building or people, just the big blazing hot sun above. Everything was still, except for the occasional gust of warm wind that would rustle his hat and send a tumbleweed rolling slowly across the ground. The sun baked the ground so it had long cracks running through it.…

I have been living here at 100 Oakway dr. Richmond, VA for over a year now. As you know, I am in apartment number 2b with apartment number 32c above me. For 3 months now, I have been experiencing loud barking and banging from above. I know already that there should be no animals here in Oakway, but it seems to me that apartment number 32c is not aware, or are not concerned with the rules. I have made several attempts to speak to Ms. Dale about the dog and how loud they are, but she always tells me they are her kids and “kids will be kids.”…

Out of all the fish in the sea, Flynn Rider was easily my best friend. We've been friends for only a year but it's like he's been with me since I was wearing diapers watching dumb educational programs on PBS. It was as if Flynn was there with me on my first day of kindergarten in a new school where I didn't know any of the kids. And when I messed up the pledge of alliance at my fifth grade graduation, it was like Flynn was there to cheer me up. I swear Flynn was there to tell me the difference between a plant cell and an animal cell when I was stressing over my first regents test in eighth grade.…

Dan and The Free CD If there’s three things my friend Dan loves, its baseball, beer and jokes. Dan is the person to find humor in almost any situation. Like our freshman year of high school when Dan’s older brother, Tommy (a Senior at the time), had gotten arrested for trying to sell drugs to our school police officer, because he thought he seemed like “a chill guy”. I first met Dan in 6th grade resource room, a class period dedicated to help those students who need a little extra help with things such as writing, reading and any other academic aspect. Dan and I had befriended one another because we both were considered the resource room geniuses, thanks in part to the fact that we were both taking classes such as Honors Math and Science.…

Sunset and shadow flashed across the mountain, the last bits of sunlight poking through the pillars of smoke and ash. The town smoldered and crumbled around them, ashy air stinging their eyes and throats and clogging his mechanisms. Rainer stood in the middle of the street car-rying his younger sibling with guns slung over their sides. The tired children only able to stare up at the destruction around them gave every last bit of energy in attempting to stay conscious. Rainer's legs, weak and tired form running, gave out from under him.…
