Dakota Daulby Essay

As a mammothWayward Pines fan, I always did my utmost to notice every single character who made an entrance into the season two of the show, even if they were only there for a fleeting moment. In the case of Dakota Daulby, I was fully impressed with his ephemeral appearance, and I contacted him immediately for an interview. Recently, Dakota took some time from his frenetic schedule to answer a few questions about the extraordinary experiences and opportunities he has had throughout his career and even some hints as to what is up ahead for him.

It's those moments I'd take over a beach in Malibu any day of the week. It's what I love about my job.

From Falling Skies
Please tell us about how you got involved with the show Falling Skies. As that has been your longest-running guest spot/recurring role so far, please tell us about your character and on-set experience.

I read for Greg Beeman - who was one of the major creatives and execs behind Falling Skies at the time - about two years prior to appearing on the show. I found out later I got really close to coming on board, but it didn't pan out. So I put it out of my mind, and two years later I got called back for this super interesting Nazi-esque character, Kent Matthews.

I knew right away that I had to do this. It was a character that was so brutal, brainwashed and committed to his cause, yet spoke in a manner that was charming and elegant. It's one of those roles that you know no one else is going to be able to tell it right except you.

I remember my first read-through. We're all sitting around a massive table, and I'm reading across from actors I've seen my entire life: Noah Wyle, Doug Jones, Will Patton, Moon Bloodgood, on a Steven Spielberg show! It was definitely a pretty amazing first introduction to the world of

Once in awhile, there is a name that just embeds itself in my brain and I cannot seem to obliterate it. Interestingly enough, it just so happens that Preston Vanderslice is one of those names. Thankfully, he is more than just a memorable name as he is a noteworthy actor as well. I first noticed him in Love By Chance, and it seems as though Hallmark, amongst other things, is slowly beginning to learn and take advantage of his potential as an artist. Recently, I had the opportunity to ask him a few questions (and completely misread one of his credits--keep reading, you 'll understand what I mean), and he was kind enough to respond with a little insight into his career and even expound a bit upon his outlook on this polymorphous industry.…

Tammy Gillis is one of those actresses that you never tire of seeing on your screen, and she is particularly versatile that you might see her in a variety of things without realizing that it is her. I was thrilled to discover that she is appearing in the next Murder, She Baked installment (that will air on Sunday, March 26th), and I am delighted that she made some time for us to "chat" again about what has occupied her time since the last time we spoke. As a part of my engagement assignment I decided to build a connection with a faculty mentor. After reading through the staff listing on the Arizona State website I decided that I wanted to sit down and talk with Professor Gregory Bernstein. I chose Professor Bernstein, because I read in his bio that he had written and sold several scripts. Becoming a writer for television and film is my goal, and the reason I chose to attend ASU, so I was interested to see what advice he could give me about the craft. When I met with Professor Bernstein we discussed how and why he became a writer, what it takes to make and sell a script, and films that we each enjoy.…

With an abundance of new characters in “When Calls the Heart” this season, sometimes only the most observant viewers might notice the handful of smaller roles that pop up now and then on the show. I was immeasurably excited when I finally figured out who the character Katie Yost was, and once I connected with the actress who portrays her, Larissa Albequerque, I knew at once that I wanted to find out more about this young actress. Thankfully, she was able to set aside some time recently to chat about WCTH as well as give insight into the occasionally overlooked Katie Yost. What inspired you to become an actress? I went and saw the author Charles Baxter at the Reedley College the other day, it was the first time I had ever attended anything like that before, like sat in while an author read a few paragraphs from his book. It was very interesting being able to hear pieces of a book knowing we could ask question to the man who wrote the book himself. The room was filled with people, so many people that they had to bring in chairs, people were even sitting on the stairs, and in the front on the floor. The room was pretty warm for it being cold outside and raining but that’s understandable since there was a lot of people in one place. It was pretty cool to hear what others wanted to ask the author and his responses to the questions he was asked.…

No, the television network Lifetime, I’m a writer. Yeah, I’ve worked for a number of networks, but am developing a show with them. Did you say you were in the entertainment industry as well?” My heart sank, it was decision time, do I double down, do I confess, do I create a diversion by knocking down a display of commemorative Los Angeles Starbucks coffee mugs? I gathered myself -- I bucked the fuck up, and conjured up some intestinal fortitude (a very finite resource of mine I might add) and I dive “Write” in -- “I’m a writer…” I emphatically declared, then mid sentence I was blindsided by a smothering wave of anxiety, and crippling self doubt (usually I call this feeling tuesday) without even thinking I stammer a bit then meekly eek out “For the Indy Star, yup - Just here on vacation.”…

If you’ve ever dreamed of escaping from the rat race and going somewhere you can live simpler life, more in tune with nature, then Life Below Zero is the reality show for you. Unlike other reality shows like Alaskan Bush people (which feels very scripted and unrealistic) there’s no question that what you see on Life Below Zero is authentic. The show follows the lives of people who live in the most remote parts of Alaska and shows viewers just what it takes to live a subsistence lifestyle. These folks don’t have building supply stores and grocery shops anywhere close to them so they do almost everything for themselves – from building shelters to hunting and gathering food and everything in-between. The cast of Life Below Zero includes outdoor survivalists Erik and Martha May Salitan, river camp owner Sue Aikens, dog mushers Andy and Jessie, nomadic hunters Chip and Agnes Hailstone, and survival expert Glenn Villeneuve and showcases their everyday struggles as they strive to survive – and thrive – in some of the harshest conditions.…

You spent much of your childhood attending plays while getting captivated by the fantasy being brought to life before your very eyes and now you want to become part of it.
