Gatsby’s Dream James Gatz was a poor man who was unsuccessful. When he met Daisy they fell in love, but he had to go off to war. Daisy did not want to wait for him, so she married a rich man named Tom Buchanan. After Gatsby came back from war he decided he wanted to be a wealthy gentlemen. He worked very hard to become rich and win Daisy back. Gatsby felt like he needed to accomplish his dream since he worked so hard. Daisy still loved Tom. As soon as he lost hope for his dream, he was killed. In, The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerlad emphasizes how hope is needed to accomplish the American Dream. George Wilson chases his dream through an honest living, maintaining the traditional values. …show more content…
I would add to the excellent list above his extravagant parties. His sole motive in throwing these events is to try to attract Daisy to one of them, or at least have his name brought up in conversations among the type of people that may run in the same social circles as Daisy. The parties are another example of how he displays his wealth and status, which he gained in the hopes of winning Daisy. The parties of "over the top affairs" which create a buzz among the people of West Egg, and even in the more austere neighborhood of East Egg. The almost over abundance of food, flowers, music and other entertainment is a public show of his success. Sadly, he doesn't realize how these displays are actually off-putting to the true, old-school, wealth of people like Daisy and Tom. Daisy has this hope for her little girl that's rather hopeless. She wants her daughter to be 'a beautiful little fool' so that her future husband would want her and not leave her for another woman because of her beauty and that even if her husband was to have an affair with another woman, Her daughter would not have to deal with it because if her daughter was a fool she wouldn't be aware of it . Daisy feels as if she already knows so much about the world, that it is almost better to not know, than to know the terrible truths about man that actually exist. She would rather her daughter just enjoy life than know of the corruption and evil that exists. Daisy is a character with little moral fortitude herself throughout the book, and she wanted more for her daughter. Daisy acts like a fool and gets treated like one. Tom acts like she doesn’t know he cheats on her every day. But Daisy is a ‘trophy wife’ and has money from Tom. She is not happy with her love life and finally finds happiness once Gatsby comes along. Gatsby makes Daisy forget about Tom and he gets jealous. Tom wants to win the competition between Gatsby but does not care about Daisy’s feelings. Gatsby dedicated half his life trying to win Daisy back. He became wealthy,
