Daintree Rainforest: A Short Story

The incessant humming of the vehicle filled the air as the view from all windows became the same pattern of leaves and tree trunks, blurring past. The Daintree Rainforest. Not exactly known as a primary location for Australian sightseeing, but nature had always been a great interest of these two travellers’. A soft breeze brushed their skin, which was almost drenched in sweat due to the summer sun. The surroundings seemed to acknowledge their need for revitalization as the temperature of the area soon was becoming somewhat bearable, due to the shade from the trees. The mid-day sun filtered through the trees, showing a depth of colour which our two travellers had never had the opportunity to absorb since arriving in Australia. “This heat, man,” one man murmured as he sipped from a water bottle. His statement received no acknowledgement, as his friend sitting next to him, who also happened to be the reluctant chauffeur on that particular occasion, had his eyes fixed on the road …show more content…
This didn’t aggravate Brad, as he promptly fell asleep under the 38°C heat. Nor was it for Oliver, as soon he became accustomed to the roads he had been driving on for several hours. His eyelids met briefly, as he inhaled the fresh, warm air through his nose. This enlightening moment lasted for a mere second, as he felt the vehicle come to an abrupt stop. Without a word, Oliver got himself out of the car and stood on the soft, sepia soil, glaring at the 4X4 before him in absolute befuddlement. There was nothing he could do at that moment to improve the situation, he had barely learned to drive a car, let alone diagnose an issue with one. Oliver silently prayed to himself that Brad, being the ‘car fanatic’ and general ‘alpha male’ that he liked to portray himself as, he would be aware of how to handle the situation. It was just a matter of waiting for him to awaken. Luckily, it wasn’t long before he

Emma Marris presents us with a new way of viewing nature in the first chapter of her book, “Rambunctious Garden”. She explains that the definition of nature depicted in our “glossy magazines” describing a place “somewhere distant, wild and free” is incorrect, as it “blinds us” from the truth (Marris 1). Marris argues that we must adjust this definition to also include the nature found in “the bees whizzing down Fifth Avenue in Manhattan” and “the butterfly bushes that grow alongside the urban river” as well as the nature found in “managed national parks” (Marris 2). She uses experiences gained during her time spent in the forests of Hawaii and in Australia’s Scotia Sanctuary as evidence to support her argument. Marris also makes the point…

Empirical analysis of literature can be a strange denomination of fun while reading. Viewing literature for its structure and organization is the essence of what makes being a bookworm so powerful and worth the effort. The ability to surgically splice and dice novels into their core elements and placing them in an organized fashion so that they can be later compared and contrast to other similar list in an effort to claim the positive or negative notoriety of a piece of literature is hardly a ticket to the amusement park. However, despite the initial lack of positives when analyzing literature in such a way, the end result can be a satisfying nature of finding out a portion of a puzzle. This data can be collected under many titles: literary devices, media, diction, language, basically anything in the actual text is up for grabs.…

An ecosystem can be defined as a community of abiotic and biotic organisms interacting with their environment. All ecosystems function in a state of dynamic equilibrium which is the product of the interrelationship of the elements of an ecosystem: atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. Ecosystems become at risk when they endure amounts of interactions and stress which exceed its carrying capacity. In order to counteract this, ecosystems must be managed effectively. Management can be broken down into two broad categories: traditional and contemporary management.…

In Anita Desai’s cultural and influencing novel, Fasting, Feasting, the author employs literary devices such as figurative language, reluctant speech, and third person point of view in order to characterize Arun’s distasteful experience at the beach. Demonstrating the use of descriptive words in the passage, Desai illustrates Arun’s annoyance with nature while going to the beach. While making his way through the woods, Arun depicts the cicadas’ “shrill” and the birds’ “shrieks” as an unpleasant sound. Portraying the negative connotation of the language, the “shrill” and “shrieks” represent Arun’s own emotions of unwillingness and annoyance. The piercing noises demonstrate how easily nature disrupts Arun’s mind as he views them as “jarring”…
