The Transcontinental has a long and vital history inside of Port Augusta and the most distant north of South Australia.

The daily paper has progressed beyond anyone's expectations from its modest beginnings as the North Western Star imprinted in Wilmington in 1912.

The first proprietors were a Mr and Mrs R. Barclay, be that as it may they sold the business not long after moving it to Port Augusta in 1917.

The paper was sold to Messers J.E. Edwards and M.H Hill, both Port Augusta inhabitants.
