However, boys are trained to be warriors from the young age. Sparta people were very focused on obedience and war. The people of Sparta did not have any luxuries. When babies were born, it was the Spartan soldiers’ who took responsibility to check the baby. If the baby did not appear healthy and strong enough, baby was taken away and left to die on a hillside. Some baby was taken away and trained to be a slave or a perioikos. If the baby boys passed the test, they become a full citizen and a Spartan soldier. In Sparta, girls were to grow up to be the mothers of warriors. Even girls of Sparta were not allowed to fight, they took part in all the training like boys because Sparta believe only fit ladies produced fit babies, who can fight. Only baby girls who passed the test, they were assigned membership in a sisterhood and allow them to become same like their parents.
In both Athenian and Sparta, men kept their hair very short. Unless they were soldiers, they have beards.
