Can your past control your future? Authors all around the world have written different kinds of stories. Stories that can excite you, scare you, and leave the story to your imagination. These stories are written by authors with their own imagination. So the question remains does the author use his or her past memories to create the story. This essay will show you the similarities of Roald Dahl and Edgar Allen Poe and how they are different in their writing and past. Roald Dahl, an author writing at the time of the 1900s. Roald Dahl grew up as a troubled child. He was sent to boarding school as a result. His writing is a kind of dark writing, many believe his dark imagination comes from his past at boarding school. Edgar Allen Poe was the son of traveling actors. His father deserted him and his mother died before his 3rd birthday. He was taken by a wealthy family, the Allen family. The wealthy Allen's gave him a first class education. He was a very romantic child and by 12 had enough love poems to girls he knew to fill a book. He had written 2 volumes of poetry by age twenty. Poe and John Allen always argued, Allen broke all ties with Poe and left him penniless. Poe then moved in with his aunt Maria Clemm. He then married Virginia Clemm. Edgar Allen Poe was also the first author to experiment with dark imagination. People believe his dark imagination comes from abandonment and the death of his mother.
Roald Dahl and Edgar Allen Poe may come from different pasts, but are both popular authors. Roald Dahl and Edgar Allen Poe’s main similarities are their dark imagination.
