“Get Lucky” Cover Paper Rough Draft

This paper will compare and contrast the song “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk and the cover by Daughter. Daft Punk is an all male group of four people. Daughter is a female solo artist. For the most part, Daughter kept the lyrics the same. She had a slight change towards the end to put her own spin on it. Each song had a different tempo. Tempo means the speed of the music Daft Punk had a faster one while Daughter took on a slower one. Due to the change in tempo, Daughter’s cover had a time of 4:54, while Daft Punk’s was only 4:09.
The instruments used for Daft Punk were a guitar, drums, and what sounds like a synthesizer. It gives the piece an electronic upbeat sound.

Major key has more of a happy tone. Minor key is on the sad side. In the original, I heard major key because the pitch was higher and more upbeat. In the Daughter cover, I heard minor key because she sang at a lower pitch and the song was more melancholy. The layers of sound in music are known as the texture. It can be monophonic, polyphonic, or homophonic. Monophone means one sound. Polyphone is many sounds and homophonic is the same sound for the melody, harmony, and supporting sounds. I heard a monophonic texture for Daughter. It sounds like one sound with nothing else mixed in. Unlike in Daft Punk’s, where I heard a homophonic one. The sounds were the same but it was more than one thing creating that similar sound. Form is the organization of musical ideas. The piece itself to me was verse-prechorus-chorus. The verse is the part that tells a story. The prechorus leads to the chorus, and the chorus is the catchy part that normally has the title in it. In the original, I heard Pharrell sing the verse “like the legend of the phoenix…” and Daft Punk sang the rest. The form is the same for Daughter except she sings all parts. I heard repetition of “we’re up all night to get lucky” from minute 2:15 to 2:24. Then it turns into an electronic sounding voice from minute 2:25 to

On the surface, one might not think that the great Italian opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi and the acclaimed indie group Dinosaur Jr. have much in common. One concert, for instance, took place in an intimate performing arts center to an attentive and quietly reverent audience while the other in a loud, rough-and-tumble rock venue to a lively and informal audience. Indeed, there may appear to be no similarities between the effortlessly skilled classical stylings of the UNT College of Music and the deliberately ramshackle indie sound of Dinosaur Jr. However, with these two concerts, we see Christopher Small’s concept of “musicking” in full effect and, critically, two different forms of the same musical elitism.…

The beginning of his career started as few others do. He didn't actually want to perform and play his songs for people, but rather have other people sing his songs. "Yet after writing his first few songs, including "The Song that Jane Likes" and "Recently", he began to consider starting his own band" (wikipedia.com). There was only one answer to this Matthews explains. "I didn't really have a vision, or a plan," says Matthews, acknowledging that some of his musical sensibility came from spending time in so many different places as a child.…

He Mandu After listening to both versions of the song, I prefer to listen to the second version. The first version it seems out of balance in how everyone was singing. The Yellow Wallpaper has a theme of wanting to break free and the song has a theme of being sick and tired of being constrained by what is expected by girls. They both also talk about how girls have high expectations for example in the Yellow Wallpaper there are expectations of the narrator. Women are only expected to care for the house and the children. One big similarity is the representation of the room that the narrator form The Yellow Wallpaper was in and how it used to be a nursery, the room represents the innocence that is also expressed in the song by the lyrics “pretty and petite” and “little” from the song. In the yellow wallpaper there is also an instance when John calls his wife a little girl “What is it, little girl?”…

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” is a song originally written and recorded by the Grunge band Nirvana in 1991 on their “Nevermind” album and is considered to be one of the most influential songs the band had written during their time. One year later, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was covered by singer-songwriter Tori Amos for her “Crucify” EP. While the cover may be extremely different from the original, there are still some elements that are similar among both versions. In contrast, both Nirvana and Amos play different styles of music which would change how the song is viewed by their respective audiences. Although the lyrics, in general, are the same, the overall meaning and mood of the song is different based which artist is playing the song.…

OutKast, a popular rap group throughout the nineties and early 2000s, has a renowned song entitled “Hey Ya!” which features the smooth flows of Andre 3000 and hard hitting rhymes of Big Boi. The song has been a huge hit for years and is virtually known by every American under the age of thirty. When the song was released in 2003, I was just three years old, but had already adopted my dad’s love for music and I frequented the kitchen tile as my dance floor whenever music was playing. OutKast’s song “Hey Ya!” holds a different weight than most other songs I grew up around because it is one of few memories I remember vividly about my childhood.…

__I think the meaning of the song that Beyoncé wrote is describing pain and what females have to go to or young teens go through, trying to impress the world, and society. How that all what we do don’t mean anything or how we present ourselves maybe we aren’t too happy on the inside maybe everything isn’t all that’s well. I like the song genre because it really feels like music for our souls trying to heal it also. The new generation now we teenagers are affected by this particular song. I think the most powerful lyrics of the song is “pretty Hurts”, because that is the pain of the song the ultimate feelings that’s what she’s trying to get the audience to understand.…
