Dael Orlandersmith Forever Analysis

Dael Orlandersmith's "Forever" provided a riveting experience where Ms. Orlandersmith herself weaves an intricate tale of her life story through a minimalist effort using just herself to lay out the scene. She began the deep connection with the audience at the beginning by coming onstage and speaking directly to the audience about typical theatre etiquette such as cell phones and then plunging into her story without a beat of hesitation, thus pulling in and engaging the audience immediately. Ms. Orlandersmith's stories were so intense and palpable that it was important to have a deep connection with the audience from the first beat. There were times where she would pause and it was if her words were lingering in the air touching each person individually. Her use of background music a couple times where she continued telling the story underneath it made it feel like an actual movie flashback where the moment surrounds you and the story …show more content…
Even though personally I have never gone through the same caliber of things that she has her stories touched me to the point of tears. The part I loved the most was her part, and the title, where she talked about her forever and how her family became the people she connected with and chose and not necessarily her upbringing or the ones she was related to blood. I happen to love my biological family and we get along well, but her concept of forever and death and choosing family is so universal. This concept is everywhere, from friends calling themselves family or even adopted kids being adopted into a new family, family is so much more than who you came from. Family, I believe and what I gathered from her, is anyone who you connect to at a deeper level, people who care. I love that she claimed the lost musicians at the cemetery her family, the ones she wanted to connect and share with, because they got along and connected at a deeper level, and that kind of connection truly is

In Cody Hale's "Going Up," women seem to have the role of staying home and taking care of children while the man of the house works. It seems as if they are not well respected and it is a hassle to get a job or to even have a slight chance of getting a job. The main character goes through trials and tribulations but stays level headed and protects her children showing how strong women really are and why they deserve to be respected. In the short story, "Going Up," symbolism, irony, metaphor, and foreshadowing is used to involve readers in the story and help them understand the hardships the main character, Amy Howell, goes through but she is still able to stay afloat, especially in the presence of her children. Jessica Risner Heather Ward English 1101-41 October 5, 2015 “Love You Forever” Literary Analysis One of my favorite stories to read to my daughter is “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch. The story is about a mother who sneaks into her son’s room, once he is sleeping, and sings a song to him. She sings to him these words “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be (pg. 14).” My favorite part about this story is that once her son is a teenager, and even a grown adult, she still sneaks into his room and sings her song to him.…

On the surface it seems like I’d know everything that there is to know from my subject, but I know better than to assume so. This is why I decided to go with my wife, Krizia Martinez as the subject for my profile essay. My wife has gone through several tragic experiences in her short life of twenty-eight years, from her biological father leaving her at a young age, to her brother being imprisoned for nine years, and then two step-fathers falling to cancer. These experiences have shaped her into the person she is today and it shocks me how resilient a person can be. As losing family members or loved ones are a common theme to most people, I believe readers will find it interesting to read about her experiences and coping mechanisms through those…

    8. "Mercedes was left alone. Bathed in tears, she was seen ceaselessly wandering around the little village of the Catalans, sometimes standing motionless in the blazing heat of the southern sun, sometimes sitting on the beach listening to the eternal moaning of the sea asking herself whether it would not be better to let herself sink into the depths rather than undergo the cruel suffering of a wait without hope" (Dumas 40). Linked by Blood Sala, sala, sala, my silver anklets chime as I swish and twirl in the mirror, admiring the skirt of my dabang. I was looking forward to showing the dark blue, flowing dress off at my grandparents’ annual family Ramadan feast. The dress glides as I saunter to the balcony of my room. The pale pink sky was slowly transitioning into a light blue as the sun rose farther into the sky, like an unsatisfied painter painting over his strokes. I breathe in the sweet smell of ripe bananas and flowering roses wafting from our large garden below.…
