Many believe that mothers predominantly influence women in a household however fathers plays a big role in shaping women’s experiences. Fathers are seen to be the disciplinarian or the more authoritative figure in the family. Fathers’ parenting style can affect daughters’ assertiveness, critical thinking abilities, strength, and her day to day interaction with others. “Daddy’s girls” and “domineered daughters” are the two typical relationship patters between father and daughter. (Bell, 2001). Daddy’s girls are defined to be women who are affectionately admired by their fathers. For the most part, fathers who genuinely loves his daughter promote a sense of accomplishment and high self-esteem. The daughters who grew up to be daddy’s girl tend to match or surpass her father’s expectations. These women strive to prove their self-worth by imitating their fathers. They also want to get their fathers approval, strives to prove her worth by having similar accomplishments and want to make him proud. Because of the solid support of their fathers, these women often excel academically and/or hold a successful career because of their self-esteem and assurances provided by their supportive fathers. This is mostly true as domineered daughters can feel suffocated by their fathers controlling ways. They tend to want to be independent early in life or get out of their father’s wings to experience freedom. Some women who grew up in an authoritarian environment tends to get influenced easily by outside factors. They ended up hanging out with the wrong crowd because these people can make them feel safe or
