A federal judge in San Francisco recently suspended plans to end the DACA program which was started by the preceding administration. As a result, Trump’s administration through the U.S. Civil and Immigration Services decided to accept renewal applications for temporary protection from deportation for immigrants brought to the country as children. The move by the government is seen to be a countermeasure to relieve the people’s furor over President Trump’s outburst on why the country must accept immigrants from certain ‘shithole’ countries. The statement was offensive to those doubting his leadership and raise the issue of the president being racist. This did not come as a surprise as Trump has, in the past, uttered statements that compromise

The nerve to phase out a program that has done nothing, expect to bring together the brightest minds into the U.S. workforce and educational institutions, is unprecedented. It’s utterly barbaric to ostracize thousands of individuals, who followed the regulations within the immigration system and upheld themselves as distinguished citizens, to prohibit the fundamental right to pursue the American dream through hard work and education. I know individuals who struggle to maintain their DACA statuses and face the constant fear of deportation because of a slip up as simple as a traffic violation. I cannot grasp the concept of a higher authority eliminating individuals based on a piece of paper that defines them as a citizen. Honestly, my allegiance lies solely within the Democratic Party because they function on using emotions to create change within the government by stating how America prospered due to immigrant influence.…

Originally introduced to Congress in 1984, the law took nine years to be passed by Congress and the President (Lenhoff, 2004). Its passing in 1993 was due to increased support from labor unions and promotion among a broad coalition from the Women’s Legal Defense Fund, which is known today as the National Partnership for Women and Families. Due to the laws broad implications for families, including support for caregiving needs of children, ill, and elderly as well as the health of individual workers, several coalition groups had motivations to support the legislation. For example, the legislation garnered support from the U.S. Catholic Conference due to FMLA’s focus on the treatment of mothers following the birth of a child while the American…
