DVM Personal Statement

After extensive research, reading, and watching videos regarding the Veterinary Medicine program at University College Dublin, I am enthusiastic about applying to the school. Being the only veterinary school in Ireland, the academic and clinical aspects at UCD seem to be very unique experiences. Reading about the curriculums for each specific year, I would love to be a part of UCD. Even beginning with the first year at this university, the students receive both incredible academic and hands on practices. When entering a DVM program, I want to experience as many fields as possible, and I know I would be able to accomplish doing so at UCD by being able to work with dairy cows, sheep, beef cattle, horses, dogs, cats, and more. I have an urban background, however, I would love to be able to gain more experience with farm animals. …show more content…
Studying in such a vast and beautiful city like Dublin would allow me to have opportunities unlike any other in the world. Having a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, a majority of my background has been focused on both exercise and nutrition. I have a strong passion for exercise and nutrition science and the health of the food products consumed. Having numerous experiences in both human and animal medicine, I think the information I have learned will help me be a strong student in a Veterinary Medicine program. I have worked in human and animal clinics, and it has allowed me to appreciate the One Health Initiative. Aside from my academic knowledge, I have also learned an enormous amount at PetLife Animal Hospital where I work as a veterinary technician

My interest in the veterinary field began when I was six, when I arbitrarily announced I was going to be a veterinarian simply because I loved animals. Since I was quite young at the time, I was unaware what the job actually entailed. Consequently, I was somehow under the impression that if I watched National Geographic and Animal Planet, then I could immediately become a veterinarian upon graduating high school. I was undeterred when I realized just how much time that needed to be dedicated to school, and instead, it motivated me to take challenging classes in high school and to pursue a job at an animal hospital.…
