Not only is it vague but also taking into account that it was written by an American government branch makes it questionable. This is due to the fact that at the time they supported the Pinochet regime in order to combat Communism, which may have lead to the omission of some critical information, as they may have been involved. The significance to this paper is that with this document is that we can see the structure and reach of the DINA. By learning the way the unit functions may allow one to evaluate their success as a secret police.

The site’s purpose is to ensure that the truth behind the Pinochet dictatorship is known and information is readily available. The site contains several testimonies that have reports and accounts of people’s loved ones or people they once knew to have gone missing. The testimonies’ origins are from family members of the people who had disappeared, and when taking that into account it gives value in knowing who the people in the testimonies were and what they did. Reading through the testimonies one finds that many of the people were student activists during their time in university. This allows us to deduce, that not only was their opposition from the political spectrum but opposition and dissent within the Chilean civilians was also present.
