DC Diaper Bank Video Analysis

For my service project, my group went to the DC Diaper Bank to learn about the existing problems that many low-income families face, as well as to assist the drive in any way we could. When we first got there, we watched an introductory video that informed us about just how much support families in the area need. I was stunned to learn that forty-four percent of children under that age of three live in low-income families in the DC area. The parents of those children are struggling financially to make ends meet, and individuals in the community felt compelled and created the DC Diaper Bank. The video also informed us that babies who do not have clean diapers are more likely to cry more, which has an extremely negative impact on the development of their body and minds. After the video, we all gained a stronger appreciation for the work the people at the DC Diaper Bank are doing. Our time was mostly spent packaging diapers. We would each grab a large box of diapers that were either donated by individual people or large companies, count twenty-five of them, and then wrap them up using plastic wrap. A parent of two young children, she understands the importance of having clean diapers. When the company was first established almost five years ago, she was just another volunteer who would bring her kids and wrap diapers for a few hours. However, as time progressed she began to work directly with the families receiving diapers, and she knew there was more to be done. So, she became the Program Associate and made it her mission to expand the Diaper Bank community. She has goals and aspirations to make the Diaper Bank a nation-wide organization, and she has the motivation to make that
