Each DBQ Project lesson is designed to teach critical subject area content through a constructivist approach. All lessons start with a driving question. To answer that question, students read, interpret and draw conclusions from a series of documents.
The inquiry/constructive nature of our lessons, places teacher more in the role of facilitator that “sage on the stage.” Through the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model, teacher begin by showing kids how they make sense of the documents, then they move to guided practice, during which time teachers prompt students by reminding them of key reading strategies and posing questions. Lastly teachers release responsibility to the students, allowing them to practice these same skills on their own,
