Client Introduction:
The client was a young adult male and appeared well groomed with good eye contact. The client presented with a euthymic mood and an appropriate affect. The client displayed coherent speech and a logical thought process. The client was oriented to people, the date, and the location.
Assessment Environment:
The DASS assessment was conducted in a private office setting to limit distractions and provide privacy. The student clinician and client sat across from each other at a four-person table. The room provided proper lighting and a comfortable temperature.
Client’s Background:

The client shared that psychiatric resources are available to him for a reasonable cost. Additionally, the client is enrolled in school and works a part-time job. The client did not display or disclose any Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms during the assessment. However, the client did share that he has military friends with PTSD.
Student Clinician’s Impressions:
This student clinician does not feel that the client would meet diagnostic criteria for PTSD. Based on the diagnostic criteria in the DSM-5, the client only meets criteria A. On the Life Event’s Check List, the client disclosed that he had experienced an illness or injury that might have caused death and an event that he thought his life was in danger. The client does not meet criteria B thought H, based on his consistent answers of “no” on the Trauma Screening Questionnaire. However, it does appear the client has experienced trauma to some degree perhaps due to his military service.
