D. H. Lawrence's The Rocking-Horse Winner

How “The Rocking-Horse Winner” did not win Humans have the tendency to always want something and only do things when it comes to their own interest. In D.H. Lawrence’s short story “The Rocking-Horse Winner”, that is wrote as a tale, using since the introduction a style that reminds a children’s book, it is possible to notice how people will only work in order to have things they want. The characters in the story have each their own and singular interest, but the main interest explored in the story are Paul’s, a boy that is not loved by his mother and his mother’s, that wants money so badly that she does not have time for her children or any other thing and blames her luck for her failures. The story revolves around Paul trying to get money for his mother in order to make her able to love him again, but he ends up obsessed with it, once money is never enough for his mother and she never seems to be satisfied.
