(A Discussion on the Three Messages from Rocking Horse Winner)

Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence was published in 1926. Rocking Horse Winner is based on a young boy presented with a father that is “unlucky” and a mother that is greedy. Both parents collide and build something in their child that makes him want to make his mother happy with money, and become “lucky”. The young boy finds his way of being lucky, is in horse races and betting on the winner. He bets more and more money every race. He partners up with the young gardener named Basset who takes care of his money.He then gains a partner in a his uncle Oscar after his uncle hears of his success in horse races. The reader is unsure how he knows the outcome of the races but toward the end he or she realizes how. Master Paul (the young boy) rides his rocking horse and after a while he becomes “lucky” and realizes the winner of the upcoming race. He decides to satisfy his mother's urge for money with a thousand pounds on her birthday for five years straight. When she hears of the news she is dissatisfied and wants all of it now. This drives

Master Paul’s mother told him, at a young age, that he had to become luck. She also entered a point that caused the rest of the story. She wanted more money than that of what they had. Her husband didn’t make as much money as his wife wanted. This causes Paul to have that urge to please his mother’s greed for money. Paul believed that his mother had no money at all until he gives her the thousand and she isn’t satisfied. He then goes overboard with his bets so she can be pleased. The reader can see that the mother will never be “satisfied” but Paul continues to the point of death. That one sentence causes her own son to die. “There must be more money!” In a way Paul's mother actually “wounds” her son and kills him in the
