I’m glad D.A.R.E taught us about the effects of alcohol, drugs, and smoking. They affect most of the organs of your body, and can lead to serious diseases and death. Knowing this important information, I know that I wouldn’t dare take a step into making bad choices!
Bad choices are easy to make. D.A.R.E stands for define, assess, respond, evaluate. Before responding right away to a tough decision, you may have to think out a few things. An example is if a you are spending time with your family, but the same day, you have your friend’s birthday party. You can define the situation. You are spending time with your family, although it's the same day of a birthday party. Then you can assess. You can find different choices to make. You can say no to going to the birthday party, and stay with your family. You can also do the opposite. Your final decision is to stay with your family. My class shared their signs of stress and what stresses them out. Some said they get stressed about tests and homework, or if they hear repetitive sounds. We also shared different ways to prevent stress or relieve it. Students said that they squeezed or punched things or would take a nap. Our class made poems, pictures, and songs about how they feel about stress.
D.A.R.E was a huge highlight of my 5th grade experience, and I’m sad that it’s almost over. I’m truly glad I got to take part in these classes with Officer Pete. From unsafe hazards to unsure situations, I learned such a great amount this year from
