The question I will be investigating is “Representations of Cyrus The Great - who was the real Cyrus?”
The reason why I chose this topic and why I am interested in it, is because Cyrus The Great is a very famous Persian leader and I would like to investigate, study and learn about the history of my own country. I believe it is very interesting but also extremely sad to learn about a powerful empire, with a ruler who once created the human rights and gave absolute freedom to people, is the same country with no power or freedom for its own people today.
There is a lot known about Cyrus II of Persia commonly known as Cyrus The Great.

Here is a brief description of some research I have already conducted.
Cyrus The Great, son of Cambyses, was the king of Persia who according to Herodotus came to power in 559 BC and conquered the Medes 9 years later. He created the largest Empire known to the ancient life. He is known to be the greatest person and ruler in the history who has changed the world.
The Jews had been living in captivity ever since Nebuchadnezzar took over Jerusalem and destroyed their temples, after Cyrus The Great conquered Babylon, he freed the Jews from slavery, rebuilt their temples and announced that everyone was free to practice their own religion. His charter is written on a baked clay named the ‘Cyrus Cylinder’ which still exists today in the British museum.
Cyrus was a very different kind of ruler, he did not enslave his new subjects, but treated them with respect. His name is mentioned 23 times in the Bible and he is referred to as a Messiah by the Jews which means a leader regarded as the saviour of a particular country, group, or cause. He died in battle in 530 BC, his Tomb still remains today in Modern day Iran.
