The story was, in essence, easy to follow, and none of the subplots with other characters cluttered the plot or added unnecessary detail, making it easy to understand and analyze for class. On top of that, the story interesting and easy to follow for modern-day readers; we can see that in all of the modern-day adaptations, both onstage and in theaters, that are available to us. This makes it easy for students to read and follow, and not get bored by. Personally, when we read Romeo and Juliet last year, I found it boring, which makes me glad that we didn’t read Shakespeare this time around. Chances are that Much Ado About Nothing isn’t exactly like Romeo and Juliet, considering that they’re, you know, different books, but I feel like I would still have the same, stale reaction to it. Shakespeare’s writings are older than Cyrano de Bergerac, making them harder for us to understand and relate to, and making us less interested and attached to the story as a result. While Cyrano wasn’t set in modern times, it still held a plot that could hold up to modern day expectations and reality, making it interesting to me, as a modern day reader. If I had the chance to forget everything about the play and read it again, I would absolutely take that
