Eventually Christian is told by Roxane that she has fallen in love with Cyrano’s soul. Cyrano is informed by Christian that Roxanne is actually in love with the man in the letters Cyrano proclaims, “I’m glad she said it, but don’t believe such nonsense! Yes i’m glad she had that thought… but don’t take her at her word! Don’t become ugly- She would never forgive me”(pg 189). While it is evident to Cyrano that he has a genuine chance to pursue her he is still in disbelief. He does not want to confess his love for her in fear of losing face as he has been using Christian the whole time. Shortly after Cyrano goes to find out if this is true, he almost confesses his love for her, but Christian is killed by Spanish troops. “Tell you? Oh, nothing . . . Nothing, I swear! I swear that Christian’s mind and soul were and are the greatest . . .”. Instead of being honest to Roxane he lies once again because he does not wish to desecrate the honor of Christian, despite that he asked Cyrano to confess to her. His action is quite contrary to his high value of honor, lying to a dead man is quite a dishonorable act. Fifteen years after the tragic event.
