I have learned many things that may help me in my future career working with children and young people who are going through transitions such as going into foster care. Transitions have broaden my knowledge and will benefit me in the future. Knowing about the Common Assessment Framework has helped me gain knowledge of the needs that has to be met in order to develop into healthy human beings. Before the decision is made weather or not the child is going into foster care or staying with their parents this step needs to be completed, On the other hand I have learned that It takes a while for the assessment to be competed with many steps following that may not benefit the child in the meantime. The first skill needed that is vial is good communication skills in order to be able to communicate with other professionals, other staff working in your category, the child and their family. It's important to have good communication skills when talking to parents as they may be difficult to talk to, they may be going through a lot themselves and may not have trust, but if I adopt good listening skills and learn how to speak in an appropriate manner, it could go smoother. I will need good communication skills in order to be able to speak to the child, If I don’t the child may not open up and they could keep their feelings bottled away, trust could also be lost. If I don’t communicate with other professionals, information could be lost about the child and their family and I could come to a wrong conclusion, this could end badly for the child and family.
