Communication: A Class That Changed My Life

Great Essays
I have had a rough life. I have been through a lot and I am ready to accept what has happened in the past. The idiots who called me names are gone. There is nothing I could gain from either yelling at them or beating the living day lights out of them. There were times that there were rumors that were spread about me like me being gay or not being able to get a girlfriend. Even though those rumors were false, I thought at the time everyone hated me and so I shut down emotionally. After that painful last year at middle school, I thought I could not believe in anyone anymore. However, to my surprise, I finally found hope in a different place.

That shining light of hope came in the friends that I found in christopher dock. Before I went to Dock, I thought I was a poor young man. A poor young man tired of the

When he called me a friend, I did not know how to respond as has been so long since someone called me a friend. One class that changed my cynical views on friendship was conflict resolution. That class did introduce me to some of the views that some of my friends had and that class introduced me to one of my closest friends. When I met her, I expected her to act cold and distant around me but instead she did the opposite of what I expected. When I acted either awkward or dorky around her, she either laughed at my anxiety and told me it was fine or calmed me down to a degree. Once she showed those acts of kindness, I began to care for her a lot. What she did for me at the time was unbelievable. The main reason I could not comprehend that fact was that the girls at my old school either treated me like garbage or ignored me. Unlike the girls at my old school, she and a few other girls that I have befriended treated me with kindness and respect. Probably the best memory in that class was when I had to present my

Way back in the 6th grade, I didn't have many friends. We all have those awkward years in our lives, and this was most definitely the beginning of mine. While sitting reading a book in the hallway of the Alton, Middle School before school a girl came by. This girl stopped, looked at what I was reading, and said, "Hey I just finished reading that book it's really good!" This small gesture, was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that I will cherish for the rest of my life.…

One day we were talking at lunch and a girl came up to us and started talking to us about herself and how discourteous her friends were to her, of course we told her that she could hang out with us. All three of us had the same class and became best friends quickly, after that I made some friends and I had the best school year of my life. The 6th grader that sat next to me was Destiny who, after 6th grade, went to Somerset but to this day we are still best friends. The girl who came up to us was Yesenia, who, after 6th grade, stayed being my best friend, all throughout middle school and was the only true friend I had all those years, she is still the best friend that I will ever have. I started that school year terrified, sad, and angry with my mom for making me move away from my friends, I’m fortuitous that I move or I wouldn't have met my two best friends that I consider family.…

After reading Jeannette Walls’ Glass Castle, I realize that she and I have a lot in common. From her parents arguing to her being bullied at school to her father dying, she went through a lot of situations that resemble some of the less known and serious problems that I had while I was about the same age. Jeannette had a tough life while growing up. However, even though I had similar issues, I lived and still live a relatively sheltered life. I, like her, simply viewed everything that happened as normal and didn’t realize that it was abnormal until I got into fifth or sixth grade.…

I had this friend named Anil John, he passed away on October 6, 2015, from a car accident. I'd say he was about 6'6" and played on the basketball team. He wasn't one of those kids that thought he was all tough because he was on the basketball team. He was one of the nicest kids to ever walk the halls of Islip high school in my opinion. It is a tragedy that he passed away so young, but I know that I will never forget the memories I made with him.…

Poverty taught me to make the most of the little I had in El Salvador. Through my daily struggles I learned to appreciate what truly matters most. As I grew up though, I realized that life may not become much more joyful, but it could certainly become much more comfortable.…
