A possible chemical reason that this experiment yielded less than 100% cyclohexanone was due to the spontaneous decomposition of sodium hypochlorite, 2NaOCl = 2NaCl + O2, which decreased the amount of reactant present in the initial reaction when hypochlorous acid was formed, which was the oxidizing agent required to oxidize cyclohexanol into cyclohexanone. Sodium hypochlorite decomposed into O2 and NaCl due to a multitude of factors such as exposure to high temperatures, prolonged storage time or sunlight exposure. If a large enough quantity of the sodium hypochlorite was decomposed to limit the reaction that produced hypochlorous acid, the quantity of cyclohexanone produced may be affected. This would have resulted in a decrease in the production…
R.C. 5.9 Mathematics (Mobile Infant) Activity: “Stack Them Up” Materials: Stacking blocks, nesting cups, measuring cups Infants are continually growing in all areas of development. In this activity, the goal is to get the infant to stack their blocks or cups. The teacher would have the child sit on the floor or at a table with their toys.…
Data/Observations: In the chromatogram of a mixture of cyclohexanol and heptanal, there are 8 peaks. Retention times are 1.783, 2.111, 2.181, 2.832, 3.798, 4.012, 4.268, and 4.351 (min) in an increasing order. Areas are 5193372, 27743, 1333, 1283, 4005, 1734332, 3526677, and 2079050. Each area corresponds to each retention times.…
Goals The goal of the lab was to investigate the properties and structure of an unidentified compound that was discovered in a local landfill. The group was called in to help determine the chemical and physical properties of the compound so we can let the people of the town know so it can be taken care of properly with or without further precautions to be taken. Another goal of this project was to devise the synthesis of the unknown compound. Experimental Design In order to determine the correct identity of our unknown compound, we first started with a couple preliminary tests, which include physical state and smell.…
Due to the results of our tests, we are pretty sure that our product is cyclohexene. Our product, cyclohexene, turned clear immediately when Br2 was added to it. Hexane only turned clear after sitting in a bright light for a long time. Cyclohexanol reacted quickly when the Br2 was added; it turned clear immediately. Our cyclohexene had a precipitate form when KMnO4 was added.…
1. a. My data demonstrated the law of conservation of mass in part 5 of the experiment, dissolving sugar in water. The law of conservation mass states that matter cannot be created or destroyed by can enter or leave the system. The system’s change in mass was 0.00 grams, resulting in support of this statement.…
The goal of the lab was to identify an unlabeled compound found in the chemistry stockroom to be able to dispose of it properly. This lab demonstrated the process of identifying an unknown compound as well as synthesizing the compound. Identifying the compound consisted of performing various tests to detect the chemical and physical properties of the compound and comparing it to the list of possible compounds. The tests conducted were the solubility test which the compound fully dissolved in water, the flame test which had no discoloration when held in the flame, cation and anion tests which showed the existence of some halides like Cl, Br, and I, pH test in which the compound had a pH of 6, and the conductivity test which had an average value…
Examination and Exercise of Green Chemistry through the Cyclohexanol Cycle Jesse Paner CHE 233L Section 301 Department of Chemistry, DePaul University, 1110 W. Belden Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614 panerjesse@yahoo.com May 1st, 2017 Abstract Green chemistry emphasizes the utilization of chemicals to their highest efficiency and reducing the production of harmful waste. This type of chemistry was initially conceived in order to reduce the damaging impact that chemical products have on the environment. Through a series of experiments known as the cyclohexanol cycle, green chemistry was observed.…
Slime is made by mixing together borax, glue, and water. Depending on the amount of borax added to the mixture will determine the density of the slime. For our experiment in class the independent variable was the borax. The dependent variable was slime. The control group was glue.…
The dehydration of Cyclohexanol requires going through an acid-catalyzed elimination of water for the synthesis of cyclohexane from cyclohexanol. To get cyclohexane from cyclohexanol you must remove the cycloalkane with fractional distillation, drying with anhydrous sodium sulfate, and analyzed by GC data and the bromine test. The reaction we are trying to accomplish going from cyclohexanol to cyclohexene is a secondary alcohol going through an E1 reaction. This is the unimolecular elimination reaction in which Zaitsev’s rule applies where the most substituted alkene is formed.…
In this lab, we carried out a variety of reactions using different chemicals and metals. A chemical reaction is when the chemical state of the substance you are testing rearranges its ionic and molecular structure. One of the reactions we experienced was single replacement, this consists of one ion switching places with another ion to form a new compound. Another reaction we saw was double replacement. In this reaction, two compounds ions are switched to form two new compounds.…

Nettie Stauts January 26, 2018 CDT-2413 Module 1 Lab Parents Perspective: The parents were apprehensive, but eager, entering their son Luke in a child care program. They were getting early intervention home-centered services in which Luke had progressed with assistance from his therapist and babysitter. He lacked social developmental skills and they heard about inclusion although unfamiliar with the concept. They were adapted interacting with Luke through gestures and augmentative communication devices yet anxious about his communication in the classroom.…
