Cycle of Oppression
• The cycle of oppression is embedded. It is seen as a justification to identify differences in individuals. Stereotypes are created and reinforced to be a negative impression of the certain individual, groups or culture. In order to break this cycle you first need to understand that stereotypes only exist if you create them. If you create a stereotype the cycle will repeat. If you don’t prejudice, or discrimination will exist to create oppression. Understand that the individuals who carry stereotypes are assuming. Each and every one of us is capable of assuming. What do you think is the hardest and easiest level of bias to address and why?
• Internalized and systemic bias can be seen as the easiest and hardest. In order to limit bias you must work on yourself first. As individuals you must understand that as much as you assume the more predicted outcomes occur on perceptions of truth.
Debunking the Myth of Race Video
1. What are your thoughts about the video?
• Very informative video. It provided information that I was not aware of. For example, I understand race plays a part in some situations but according to this video race plays a part in pretty much everything. Knowing that race is a socially constructed I question certain decisions made in the word. The ideologies are to justify the concept but in reality it is a made up word with too much power.
2. What surprised you about this video if anything?
• The idea of race being created in 1776 by scientist and how it changes.

Do you see any stereotypes? If so, describe them.
• Watching the video you will notice the woman created some type of fear for African Americans. She is to not trust the man who is willing to help. By her having this fear she created unnecessary problems for herself.
4. Is her wallet missing? Why or why not?
• Personally, I do not think so. I feel like she was just looking for something to complain about. But that’s my assumption.
5. Did she have enough money for the salad? Why or why not?
• I do not want to assume. But I will say this I think she had it but she felt since she experienced so much in a little time that she could’ve paid whatever amount for the salad.

What’s your reaction to the conversation you and your partner had?
• Starting off the conversation was weird for me. But understanding the different perspectives that exist on the topics discussed was interesting. It is important to exchange different ideas and see how others relate their own personal experiences.
What can you learn about managing urban diversity about this topic?
• Be willing to learn. Be willing to listen. If you are willing to do the two you will be able to acceptance and knowledge the differences in
