With new technology emerging every day, we must now contend with the downside of this part of modern society. Cyber Bullying is a form of harassment by which one uses a cell phone, computer, and/or social media. What makes cyber bullying different from other forms of bullying is that this can occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A child never gets a break. Even when in the confines of their own home, they must still contend with the threats made by another student. Cyber bullying is a specific term for an act that occurs between two minors. If an adult is involved, it would be termed cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking.

They may skip school and be unwilling to attend school. They can have low self-esteem and an increase in health problems. Their grades may be poor. Cyber bullying can have a negative or destructive effect on its victim. A child can become hurt or intensely angry. This can also cause significant depression. In an effort to decrease cyber bullying, it is recommended that a parent closely monitor online activities. A child should be asked what they are doing and who they are doing it with. Passwords should be shared. Encourage a child to be honest about bullying. Let them know that they do not have to endure this behavior and that an adult must be told if this is happening.
