Cyberbullying In High School

Throughout my years in grade school, I was always ignorant enough to dismiss cyberbullying as a small problem being met with exaggeration. I always thought, "Just ignore the 'bully' and/or turn the computer off." This instilled belief resided within me until the problem of cyberbullying personally affected me with a life-changing experience, near the end of my tenth grade year.
On the evening of May 13, 2011, I logged into Facebook and posted a status update that expressed my stress over finals. Minutes later, a classmate posted a comment, under my status update, exclaiming, “NOBODY LIKES YOU!!” Surprised and embarrassed, I sent her a message asking her for a reason for her comment. Minutes later, she replied, unveiling her anger towards me for reporting her boyfriend, a few days earlier, to our school's vice-principal for constantly giving me a hard time. Her response was shortly followed by messages featuring a vast amount of verbal abuse that successfully scarred my emotions to a degree.

Throughout my 4 years at Booker T., I've met a variety of people, of whom, I never dreamed I'd ever come into contact with. Of those people, there is one person that really stands out to me. For the sake of her privacy, I wont reveal her name, I'll use a pseudo name (lat's say, Amanda). Amanda is an African American female in the theater cluster, she is a talented mime and even more talented costume designer. Amanda also happens to be a very far right winged republican with some of the most intense views on immigration and religion influenced studies that I've ever seen in someone of her race.…

According to Cyber Bullying Research Center, almost half of people ages 14 to 24 admit to observing malicous statements made about each other on social media. This proves that cyberbullying is a common problem that society should fix by prosecuting those who bully others online. Brett Warnke, the moderator of “The Dangers of Cyberbullying,” a radio interview, stated “But with a surge in the popularity of new technology among children and teens, bullying has become a problem that doesn’t always stop at the end of the school day.” New technology will continue to be release, and cyberbullying will not halt unless we prosecute the…

I was walking around with my so called “friend” when they came. I say my so called “friend” because she honestly wasn’t. None of the girls at my old school were my actual friends. Either I just didn’t really talk to them because we had nothing in common, or all they did was spread rumors about each other. The only reason I talked to them was because I didn’t want to seem mean, plus they were the only girls I knew.…

Throughout my life I’ve known plenty of people, and quite a few of them ended up being rather toxic. This particular debacle began over vacation on the cusp of autumn. My sister and two of our friends were together on a trip to Newport, Rhode Island, and on the two hour car ride there, one friend, I’ll call her A (I don’t want to use any names), threatened to reveal a long-time secret kept between her and another of my friends who was also my boyfriend, J, which had the codename of “Muskrat.” I was very eager to figure out what exactly was going on, and had been since I first heard about Muskrat two or three months prior. I knew it had to do with J and I, but I wasn’t sure quite what.…

Matt Lanter from the 9:02 show states, “Using the internet to bully someone is called cyberbullying and sadly this is becoming a huge problem in today’s schools. The consequences can be disastrous both for the victims and the perpetrator” (Cyberbullying PSA). This is a strong opening statement that catches the reader’s attention and is then followed by a scene of three high school girls scheming a plan to get revenge on another girl who is having a casual conversation in the hallway with one of their boyfriends. The girls start by calling her ugly names to each other which is seemingly harmless, considering they were just venting over jealously. However, later in the film, the girls sat outside in the football field and began thinking of ideas of what they could do to tarnish her reputation.…

The letter placed increased responsibility on school communities to create a safe learning environment. Since 2002, boards of education have been required to establish policies prohibiting bullying. Since then, the law has been amended several times in an effort to protect students from bullying. The amendments further describe other incidences of bullying as physical acts or gestures with intent to cause physical or emotional harm, damage to property, or creating a hostile…
