Cyberbullying Persuasive Speech Outline

Have you or anybody that you know ever been bullied? Do you ever find yourself thinking that the cyber bullies do it for the attention? Imagine this: your head is spinning, your palms are sweating, and you find that everybody is just pointing and laughing at you. Tears run down your face as you think that this is not real life. What would you do in this situation? Would you stand up for yourself or your friend? These thoughts and actions are just the start for one suffering from bullying. It can potentially go as far as changing their natural course of life. Many people say that cyberbullying is detrimental to one’s developmental growth and could eventually lead to the extreme of suicide. What should we, as a society, do to stand up to the bullies? New programs and rules of conduct should be put into place within all schools and within all states regarding cyberbullying. According to the Cyberbullying Research Center, “Forty-nine states have laws against bullying, and twenty of them [states] specifically mention cyberbullying” (Menza 2). Suicide due to cyberbullying is so common that “bullicide” has become a new term in the bullying and suicide world over the past decade (Poland). In a study conducted by Sameer Hinduja and Justin Patchin, they found that approximately twenty percent of the two thousand randomly selected middle schoolers they polled reported seriously thinking about attempting suicide because of cyberbullying, whereas nineteen percent actually attempted suicide (“Cyberbullying and Suicide”). They also concluded that cyberbullying victims were one point nine times more likely to attempt suicide than those who were not cyberbullying victims or offenders (“Cyberbullying and
