Cyber-bullying: An Arising Problem
Cyberbully should be exhibited to college students, this movie promotes awareness and presents the potential dangers of the internet via social networking. A prime example of what can occur in today’s society was presented in Cyberbully. The main character Taylor Hiltridge receives a laptop for her birthday. She is ecstatic as her mother is finally trusting her to go on-line without adult supervision. She creates an on-line account for a social networking site named,” Cliquesterz,” in which the majority of her school utilizes. Things begin to spiral out of control, as she falls victim to cyber-bullying and betrayal of her most trusted friends. Cyber-bullying can happen to anyone, but several teenagers have fallen victim to and experienced this type of bullying firsthand. The bullying occasionally starts off as something minor, but can quickly escalate and cause severe emotional or even physical damage. By not educating our pupils on the seriousness of cyber-bullying, may cause more cases to develop. Not enough information is being supplied amongst schools and teenagers may not know how to react if victimized. It is important to disseminate information as far as signs to look for, what to do if victimized, as well as support and in what manner to handle this type of bullying. This topic should be taken very serious with caution, and by spreading any knowledge regarding this problem should make a positive impact. In reality, the internet is being utilized by college students every day. Studies indicate from 2016, 95% of college pupils have a Facebook and 80% have a twitter, (Viener 1) 52% of students reported being cyber-bullied. (Bureau of Justice Statistics) Cyber-bullying is not as bad as face to face bullying. Cyber-bullying is worse, because it is a form that follows you everywhere. Some content may never be deleted and can stay on-line forever. For example, when a video goes viral, this video may be reproduced and shared amongst millions of people, a great chance it will haunt you forever. You can escape on-line bullying by closing your page, or ignoring the comments. As much as you try, it may not be that easy. Even if you are able to get something deleted, for example a comment or page, the person doing the bullying is anonymous. They may never be tracked and have the ability to create multiple pages without anyone finding
