Cyberstalking When it comes to investigating a cyber-stalking case there are steps that must be taken in order to find out who is committing the crime and to solve the case in order to put a victim at peace feeling safe again. A lot of individuals who commit the crime of cyber stalking think that they will get away with it due to the fact that the victim does not actually physically see them personally and all they get are messages through a computer. I will now go through the steps that investigators will take when solving a case involving cyber stalking. In this step the detective will find out whether or not the victim knows the individual and may in any way know who he/she may be. If the victim may know or may know who the individual may be then ask the victim what is the relationship between the two of them and also for information on the individual, such as name, address, phone number and the vehicle that the individual would be driving. You would also request copies of all of the messages which show all parts all parts of the email that the victim had received. If the messages had not come from email then you would request all information obtaining to the cyber staling such has nicknames used in the chat rooms, URL from the website and the contents were on them sites. The detective asks the victim if she knows any reasons why the individual has targeted her and try and establish when the harassment had begun. The detective would also need to find out if she had only been targeted online through the computer or if the individual had at any time contacted her by mail or by telephone. That is an important part of the investigation because if the individual had contacted her by telephone then the detective could request her phone records and pin point the number that she had received the phone call from and then find who that number by any chance belonged to if he/she used their own personal phone to make the call.
