A social networking sites like Facebook is a larger organization, where they are bound by several rules and regulations, including censorship. The development of sites like Diaspora enables users to enjoy the benefit of social networks without the heavy hands of censorship. This led to a discussion such that there is a power struggle between the states and the Internet communities. In other words state is trying to control the content in the Internet whereas public are finding several means to evade the filtering system developed by the state. In my view Internet community should be given more freedom. However, we should also take into account that when granting freedom some form of surveillance is also needed, as it helps to track down terrorists and criminals.
