Cyberbullying v.s. Face-to Face Bullying: Which is Worse? Zoe Johnson, a young 13 year old girl from Wyoming, Michigan who was cyberbullied online constantly and had minor depression. In addition, she was also a member of the cheer team and had just finished seventh grade at her middle school. In early July, Zoe Johnson committed suicide and Zoe’s family was deeply affected. Zoe’s mother, Rebecca Abbott, believes that cyberbullying is what took her life. The evidence that she found was that a day before her daughter’s death she found a post that stated, tag a b**** that you do not like, and found others who tagged Zoe in the comments. Also, after Zoe’s death online users still continued to say mean things about her, such as, “Good ur gone”. (Josh Sidorowicz 1)

Some could say that face-to-face bullying is worse because it can include physical abuse. Additionally, one could argue that face-to-face bullying is worse because victims can report and block the bully. Likewise, some may strongly believe that face-to-face bullying worse because it is real life communication and it would cut deeper. According to one study, 59% of the children felt that face-to-face bullying was worse than cyberbullying. (Science Daily 1) However, this may be true, but cyberbullying is worse because before you get a chance to block them out, the photos, videos and rumors can already be viral. Also, on the other hand, cyberbullying is worse because it is becoming more frequent since this generation is using technology and social media more often. Even though face-to-face bullying includes real communication, cyberbullying is still worse because it is anonymous and causes the bully say things that they would not say in person.
