First of all, two major impacts the cyanide spill had on humans was food and water contamination. Unless cyanide wasn’t ingested in large quantities, it wasn’t a major threat to human health. But many officials took action by banning the diet of fishes located in or near the river. According to the article “Romania’s Cyanide Spill” it said that, “ The cyanide spill have affected the drinking water of nearly 2 million people. Fishes was also banned and removed from restaurants menus in order to prevent cyanide consumption” (Mannior). This impacted and threatened many of the animals habitats by intoxicating, threatening, and making it unsuitable for life to sustain. According to the textbook Geography Alive (pg.246) it stated that, “The result of the cyanide killed about 200 tons of fish and even hundreds of otters from eating poisoned fishes” (Diane Hurt). This confirms that the cyanide spill didn’t just affect one kind of species but also the whole animal food chain that consumes fish.
