Supply chain is the flow of inputs into the company and flow of output out of the company to the customers. This involves suppliers, vendors, contractors, the principal business or producer, distributors, wholesalers, retailers and customers. Therefore, supply chain management has connection with other parts of the business from procurement of supplies to design to production then to sales and administration. The road from CVS to CVS Caremark has been a carefully planned one. CVS Caremark was formed in 2007 after retail pharmacy operator CVS Corp. merged with pharmacy benefit management provider Caremark Rx Inc. Today, CVS Caremark has been recognized repeatedly as one of the best-managed supply chains in the industry. After the 2007 merger of CVS and Caremark, the company has evolved into an integrated pharmacy company whose retail division has more than 7,600 stores serviced by 18 distribution centers throughout the United States (TLI 2010).
