Cuvy: The Importance Of Listening Habit Analysis

Habit Five - Seek First To Understand, Then To be Understood In Habit five, Cuvy explains the importance of listening and understanding before wanting to be understood in return. Being selfish is one of the worst characteristic of human beings. When somebody talks to us, or explains a trouble or fear that they might have, we need to listen. Listen before reacting and listen before giving our opinion. When we truly listen, we give ourselves time to understand what the person is saying in order to create an appropriate answer. When we give other people the support that they need, then and only then will they be prepared to give us something in return. We should seek not to always receive, but to give first with nothing in return. Group five …show more content…
People are always going through something and we might not know, so it is important to, step back, think about what they need to hear and understand where they are coming from before we add our opinion. I will work on this habit by listening to understand instead of listening to answer. Often I find I listen in class and then I put my hand up and totally tune out what the teacher is saying in order to form my question or answer. I will also try and wait until the person is done talking and then after they have shared think about what an appropriate answer is, if it is even appropriate to answer. This is an important habit in terms of the Laurier program as we do so many projects as a class and presentations that we need to listen to what the person is saying and understand what they're trying to get across before we implicate ourselves into the situation. In the future this will be highly important because if you wish to be respected and heard yourself, you need to listen and understand first. If someone is nothing but rude to you, then the odds of you being friends with them is small. The same goes for respect and trust; if you show understanding and …show more content…
This habit wraps all of the habits up. Sharpen the saw means that it is okay to slow down for a second and take a break. Refreshing yourself, and stepping is allowed. Sometimes, like Noah said during the presentation we get so caught up in things that we forget to take a moment for ourselves and we end up over working. For example, we tend to over study and stress out. I know personally, once I had studied for four hours straight . I got to the point where I couldn't even look at my page anymore. I decided to go for a run and drink some juice and then, after I had sometime to relax and de-stress I returned back to my work ready to concentrate. This habit reveals the truth that being successful means understanding time management and understanding that priorities, goals and breaks are allowed and also needed to form a strong successful person. I think that this is a habit that I truly need to work on in my life. I think that when I have a lot on my plate I feel like I just need to “get it done” and it would be better to do it all at one time than to save it for later and work on it in pieces. I think that trying to do everything at once lowers the quality of my work as i’m more focused on getting it done than doing well and truly learning the concept. I will ameliorate myself in this habit as during the presentation Noah’s point about burning out and over-stressing really caught my attention. I will use my skills from Habit three to plan out my time

The topics most likely relate to sports whether it be NBA matchups, one-on-one matchups. Others include NFL topics such as who will win the super bowl and who are the best players at each position. One day when we were talking at lunch one of my friends said that the Atlanta Falcons Defense is under-rated.…

Someone could use these habits for different things like handling their attitude, all the way to getting themselves a good education. Even if someone doesn't believe that listening in class doesn't matter, it truly does. As Michael Nicholos said in his book, The Lost Art of Listening, he states "To listen is to pay attention, take an interest, care about, take to heart, validate, acknowledge, and appreciate (Nicholos 14). Then back to being proactive, people can even be proactive when listening during school, presentation, etc. This is because if someone is paying attention to the people that are teaching/speaking, they will become more proactive by respecting them by giving them all their attention.…

After I read the 7 habits book, I started to know that I don’t actually have an appropriate balance among the various aspects of my life (family, friends, work, and so forth). I started to know this as I read the RBA (relationship bank account) pages. I came to know that about me because in the RBA section, RBA deposits and RBA withdrawals, I read the RBA deposits and I didn’t fit into all of them, but as I read the RBA withdrawals I came to know that I fitted into almost everything like Break promises, Talk too much, and Keep to yourself. I always do these kind of stuff to my friends, peers, and my best friends which makes it harder to keep up with my relationships. In the habit 4 worksheet, I had a lot of situations that relates to win- lose and lose- win attitude which I could have easily changed to a win- win situation, but I didn’t…
