They are the narrator son’s foster parents since he was taken away from his mother .The bakers wants to adopt the narrator son. They show signs to the mother that they either didn’t think she was right be around her son or the just didn’t like the narrator. They never really let her be around him by herself when she can to visit. If the story had their point of vein the reader will find out what they really think about the boy’s mother.
Furthermore, the story would be more effective if it was told from other point a view as well as the narrator’s point of view. The narrator and her son both know different details that happen over the life time they was living together to the present time. Even the Bakers point of view would also be effective to this story to improve it. The narrator ask question throughout the story that she cannot answers .The point of view from the other characters in the story would help answer those questions.
Finally, the story “Customs of the Country” is told in first person point of view. The narrator is trying to get custody of her son again. He is now living with his foster parents which is the Bakers. The story would had been more effective is the story was told from other characters point of view and not just the woman that is narrating the story. There are many questions in the story that is left with the
