Customer Feedback And Product Improvement

Good Essays
In the world of Operations Management, especially in manufacturing, change is inevitable. There can be changes to the product based on customer feedback and product improvement. There can be changes to the processes due to new technology, think about robots, or product redesign. There can also be changes to the basic way you extrapolate data to determine how your operations are running. We used to keep track of production data on paper, it was inefficient at best and lacked the timeliness to react in order to prevent problems from occurring. We needed something newer and more accurate in order for our business to survive. My previous company, a small manufacturing operation, was stuck in the past. It had been “operating” with an antiquated DOS based order and inventory system for over 20 years. A typical day consisted of consulting a handed down Excel spreadsheet with order numbers and other pertinent information so we could run the shift. Orders that had been completed during 2nd and 3rd shift were scratched out with a pencil, leaving lots of room for error. There were frequent issues with orders being prematurely scratched out and new orders started only to find the error and swap the equipment out again. Sometimes, when the Excel sheet was edited, orders were inadvertently deleted or moved to a different machine causing confusion. Often there was not enough inventory produced due to manual counts scribbled on the back of the order and the human error involved in keeping

For instance, after we purchased new machines, we needed to switch the order contract because sticking with Contract 1 meant our machines would sit idle sometimes and we could not operate efficiently. Finally, we drew a lesson from the calculation on EOQ. At first, we struggled with finding out the new EOQ given that each members of our team generated different numbers. But after we compared each computing process, we realized that the reason we had different numbers was because some members did not keep the unit consistent. Once we corrected the mistake we had made, we were able to easily calculate the EOQ in the later…

Writing down my homework was arduous because I have not done it for several years, so it does not a habitual activity. I also noticed I did poorly on my quizzes when I didn’t take the time to make sure I went through all the questions. An example of this was in the week 1 and 2 quiz I submitted my quiz without making sure I answered all the questions. I noticed that I had this time management problem early in the semester, so I started to do things to help myself with it. I bought a white board and used the black marker for deadlines and the blue marker for when I would work on those things. This helped me tremendously because I was able to break down when and what time I would do things.…

Last semester, my highest graded paper consisted of a very well written introduction and then a sort of paragraph outline with quotes and my ideas concerning the quotes. My professor last semester remarked that the papers I had turned in and the grades I received definitely did not reflect my abilities, and were marked down due to the lack of organization in my work. I know that my content is “A quality”, but I need to improve the structure of my papers to earn the grades I should…

Their staff would manually input shipments into its proprietary vendor management system which would notify its transportation management system for consolidation and optimization. Target was in fact making transportation decisions with very limited visibility to the shipments. This led to an excessive number of costly less than truckload moves. The company was unable to continue operating in this manner as the business continued to experience growth. Target was exploring ways to improve its load factors, reduce data entry requirements and errors, optimize routing decisions, and disseminate more timely shipment status information to everyone in its supply…

Even though this thought is not proven by scientific facts, he uses pictures to prove that our everyday activities are done in lines. We read in lines, work in something called an assembly line, and draw in lines. In a way, the beginning of technology did shrink the creativity of its users and began the life of invisible lines. The growth of technology has always had its flaws but it also made the way for new…

I also need to learn that I cannot fix everything. At this time I am not in a manager role and I often find myself wanting to give my input on things that I feel are being done incorrectly. I have notice that I have develop a since of patients running short when I see people doing things that can be done better. For example; I have work in other departments that have eliminated the high use of paper by scanning and keeping documents electronic with electronic file not making multiple paper copies and keep the original in the offender’s hard file. Nonetheless I take with stride and make copies as I am told but all I see is wasted money in supplies and time.…

However, recently, I learned how to skim long readings and get the core elements from it which saves a lot of my time for other tasks. Lastly but not least, I tend to focus on the bigger picture and miss the details in a lot of different scenarios. For example, almost all the time, I get marked down in my mathematics exam because I tend to miss the sign or the parentheses. This is because I focus mainly on how to solve the problem on a big scale and so I tend to lose my attention to the minor details! This is a threating weakness especially as I am looking for a financial analyst job, which requires a great deal of attention to very small…

My biggest weakness is probably punctuation, I can learn it over and over again, and I still manage to use it incorrectly. My biggest problem is thinking I have to put a comma everywhere. Putting commas everywhere leads me to have run-on sentences. To improve this I need to utilize the “fanboy” acronym when I write text messages. I have a couple of sentence errors that I need to work on, but that’s due to me not reading my paper out loud to myself.…

These words were misspelled not because I don’t know how to spell them, but because I had a limited amount of time to write the essay in class. I only had fifty minutes to write the four pages of my Teen Influences paper. The day before I could have written half of it, but I didn’t because I had other things on my mind that kept distracting me from doing the in class essay. It may not seem as a huge deal, but a final draft has to be perfect. To fix the spelling issues I now look up how to properly spell a word I have a doubt on how to spell; and also double check spelling when I am rushed and on a time…
