I would have a full understanding of the service schedule for all the DPL buildings and will want to observe how well each lead worker oversees and trains their staff in the field. I would observe how well the custodial staff follows the service schedule on a daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly basis. There are ways of training the custodial staff that will help them follow every step of the service schedule and avoid common mistakes that are leaving the library staff alienated and frustrated. It is an industry norm, that a new employee should be closely supervised for five to seven days once they start servicing a venue. Proper training from the very start allows for a staff member to thrive on the job when they are confident in their job responsibilities. Ongoing staff member support and coaching is a must. It would be my goal to have a properly evaluated and trained staff in place at this point in my tenure. It would be my goal to have many of the open work order issues addressed, and in the process of being rectified. I would personally identify any ongoing issues and get them resolved very quickly with the help of my
