Cursive Writing Benefits

Everyone hated 3rd grade when we would have to get out those worksheets with cursive writing. We never liked having to trace over those dotted cursive lines. Sometimes we would even try to skip class during that time, but we never knew all the good benefits we would get from writing for those 20 to 30 minutes. For example, cursive helps us develop fine motor skills and it reinforces learning. It can also help for signing legal documents. More importantly, it’s a cognitive exercise to keep our young minds sharp. People may say cursive is a waste of time because we probably aren’t going to use cursive, but it’s much more than how much you use cursive, because it may be the most important skill to have in the future. For example, cursive helps develop fine motor skills that we may not have. Cursive also has a nice calming effect, so cursive can help so you aren’t stressed. Cursive can also help improve memory, so if you are writing notes, it’s easier to remember if your notes written in cursive. This is how cursive helps that brain and makes us smarter. Next, cursive is also important when signing legal documents. For instance, you can never sign your name in print, so if you know how to sign your name it makes it a lot easier. If you practice your signature you can make it almost impossible for people to copy it. Another this is, if you ever have to read something, for example the census, it’s all written in cursive so you have to be able to read in cursive to read the census. The signature is also like a fingerprint. It’s a very important thing in your life, because without a fingerprint you can’t, travel, get a house, and other important
