Is cursive really that important anymore? Yes, I think it is very important that we keep cursive in our classrooms. I had to learn cursive while in school and now as an adult, enjoy knowing it. I just learned that cursive is a powerful brain tool. Cursive helps with fine motor skill devlopment and stimulates both the right and the left parts of the brain. Neither tying nor printing involve communication between both sides of the brain. Some people with brain injuries loose the ability to read or write. But its reported that although they cant read or write some could still read or write cursive.This emphasizes that cursive writing, print, and typing engage different types of the brain. And by neglecting to teach cursive, we are neglecting to exercise parts of the brain that are import to thinking and learning. I don't know about you, …show more content…
If we can give the children who have dyslexia an extra tool to help them read better, why would you want to take that away. But some people say cursive in a twenty-first century dinosaur. Because everything involes computers these days. A signature is no longer needed for legal documents or receipts. If a signature is needed its is usely an electronic signature. Also the global economy requires students to be prepared to type and have computer skills, not writing in cursive. Teachers have to teach students to be proficient in typing by the forth grade. But Psychioigists found that typing dosen't help you learn as well as writing. Writing by hand helps individuals remember ideas better.They believe this is because writing by hand helps you process the material better. Everyone is intitled to there own opinion, but mine is made up about keeping cursive in our schools. Cursive is a helpful tool that not only does help your brain become stronger, but it also helps children who have a very hard time reading. And I will always be for helping kids with reading
