The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) is a set of codes, descriptions, and guidelines intended to describe procedures and services performed by physicians and other health care professionals. When coders use CPT it simplifies the reporting of procedures that were performed and placed in a patient’s file. Also, the CPT manual is organized by section numbers and their sequences, including category I and II codes. Overall, specific guidelines on how to use each section is presented in the beginning of each section.
