Current Issues Related to Infant and Toddler : Child Abandonment

Defined not only as the engagement in deserting a child, child abandonment also includes the failure to provide necessary care. Child abandonment has been an issue related to infant and toddler care, dating far back to the medieval laws where the Visigothic Code was put in effect. Although we have advanced much in human civilization, technology, and economics, the current day statistics of this cruel act has unfortunately, regressed tremendously.

At it’s core as an inhumane act, many child abandonments have been happening, not only in Malaysia, but all over the world. Although local and international law-makers have tried various ways to put a cease to this tragedy by creating

I believe that it starts with educating and bringing awareness of this particular issue to the society. Although baby dumping and/or child abandonment has been and still is a taboo topic to speak of, through the empowerment and teachings to the communities and/or societies, they will be able to provide the appropriate support to expectant mothers.
With proper guidance and aid given, mothers are given opportunities to see the value and beauty of their child's life. This would be of exceptional value to mothers who feel shame of having a disabled child. On top of this, championing and sustaining for child advocacy, is an integral and essential part of preventing child

In addition to this, offering financial support to those below the average income group will also grant opportunities to those living in poverty, a chance to step out of the vicious cycle it has entrapped them in. Promoting positivity and encouraging the public to come together to build a wholesome environment for the future generations will also spark a trigger of the importance of the life of a child to all.

Child abandonment is an issue that is faced by man-kind worldwide, but as we, in our own small communities, begin to take steps to educate and make a difference, through joint efforts, I have faith that child abandonment will one day be extinct. References

Foster Care a Trapped Door Is foster care a safety net or a trapped door? Children come into foster care needing a safe place. They need to be able to either find a adopted home, be reunified with their parents or parent, or live in a stable home with a family member. Instead, children come into the foster care system in which they move from foster home to foster home, without loving parents or a permanent family. While in foster care, if they have not been adopted by the age of 9, they will most likely be in foster care until they reach age 18 and “age out” of the system.…

Introduction The government is more interested in the War on Terrorism then the terror in the eyes of over 700,000 children who have been horrifically abused; physically, mentally and sexually, along with being neglected or abandoned, by the hands of the ones they entrusted to love, care and provide for them, the parents of America (Numbers reflected by the National Foster Care Coalition, 2013). “Nearly 58% of children in foster care have been removed from their families for neglect. About 19% of all children who are maltreated are physically abused, 10% are sexually abused, and 7% psychologically abused. In 2005, the number of children in foster care was 513,000, but as of September 30, 2014, the number of children in foster care dropped to 415,129. Although it is promising that there appears to be a downward trend in the number of children who needed to be removed from their birth home, either permanently or temporarily, the number of children waiting to be adopted has not dropped by as large a percentage. In 2005, 22% of the children in foster care, about 114,000 were waiting to be adopted, yet in 2014 the total was 107, 918. The majority of children in foster care are not on a path for adoption and for most children it is a temporary place until their birth parents are better able to care for them.…

    The Child Welfare System

Introduction: The child welfare system is a corrupt system. Many suspected cases of neglect (GRTEP defines this as “parents should have done something for the child but failed to do so,” such as denying medical care or not feeding them) or abuse (GRTEP defines this as “Abuse means that you did something to hurt your child,” such as molesting them or hitting them hard enough to break bones) are going unreported or uninvestigated, children are living in miserable conditions (even after DCS intervention or when in foster care), and are not given a smooth transition into adulthood. Perhaps a more family centered approach to ending child abuse and neglect would benefit our country the most. Discussion: With many children living in neglect and abuse…
