Health care in the United States has been the ongoing issue and many Americans are concerned about it. Government and many politicians continue to have a debate over the issue in Health care. Millions of Americans have little or no Health care coverage and thousands of deaths are reported every year due to lack of health care insurance.
There are numerous reasons why the current Health care system is failing in the United States. The first reason is that, United States spends more money on Health care compare to any other country around the world. We have very poor access to medical records, lab tests, poor communication between doctors and patients due to language barrier and duplicate testing. According to Jonathan Govette, 3 out of 10 lab tests are reordered because their results cannot be found. 68% of the specialists receive no information from the primary care provider. 60 to 70% of referrals go unscheduled and about 25% of the overall appointments are missed out. According to an article published in CNN about, “America’s 9 biggest health issue” by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, states that each year, around 2 million people get infected with bacteria, and at least 23,000 people die each year. Most of theses deaths happen due to lack of settings in the health care system and nursing homes. Roughly 7000 people die every year from poor physician’s handwriting. (Gupta & Correspondent, 2015) Americans are most likely to say that their physician does not know the important information about their medical history, which will lead to increase in medical errors. A study done by CRICO, states that, over 23,000 medical lawsuits were reported and those reports claimed that patients suffered some form of harm. Out of those 23,000 cases, 7000 were caused by miscommunication. Miscommunication error does not just happen because someone does not understand what a doctor is saying, errors occurs because the information giving by the doctors are unrecorded or sometimes, they are ignored. …show more content…
The United States system is known for over treating and over testing, everything from CT scans, replacements, bypasses to MRIs are being over tested. United States did 100 MRIs tests and 265 CT scans tests for every 1000 people in 2010 according to Jason Kane. This is more than twice the average compere to other countries. Other than over treating and over testing the patients, United States pays higher prices for the same brand name drugs than any other countries around the world. There is also a shortage in doctors. There are not enough doctors to care for the American population. According to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the United State is already short of 10-15 thousands of doctors. The shortage of doctors will get worse as the demand for care will increase. (Gupta & Correspondent, 2015) Another issue in America is that, the Health care insurance is tied with employment. More than 90% of private Health care plans in the United States are tied with employment. According to HealthPAC, about 24% of the people in America are without insurance because they have either lost their job or there was a change in the employment. According to McKinsey Global Institute, about $75 billion are wasted in marketing, underwriting, sales and billing that offer no Health care benefits to the Americans. According to Anne Paddock, who write an article on, “Why Health Insurance Should Not
