Analysis Of Curley's Wife In Of Mice And Men

In the book Of Mice And Men one of the main characters are a girl that all of the other people in the story call curley's wife. In the story curlys wife is lonely, isolated, and has some hopes and dreams. All the things that curlys wife feels and interpret are important because they all help us connect to her and tell us how they feel and how she feels as her being the only girl on the farm. In the story one of the main characters is curley's wife. Curlys wife is lonely because she is the only woman on the farm. To express her feeling she is meant to the men on the farm. The men on the farm think that she should not talk to anyone. They think that since she has a husband then there is no reason on why she should be talking to other men. In the quote “ listen nigger,” she said. “You know what I can do if you open your trap?”(Steinbeck 80) she is not just calling crooks a nigger because that is what they called people like that in those days she is calling him that to intentionally hurt him and she does. There are many times in the story that curlys wife says mean things to people to destroy others that are weaker than her. Like in the story when curley's wife “... Turned on him in scorn. “Think I don't like to talk to somebody ever’ once in awhile? Think I like to stick in that house all the time?” shows that she is lonely because she is expected to sit in the house all day while curly is in a whore house. They do not think that what curly is doing is wrong they just see what she is doing and does not think about what her husband is doing. The men do not see what curly is doing to be wrong because that would mean that they would not be able to go to the whore house as much as they would like because all most all of the time curly's goes with
