The world can be a great place to live in full of surprise and dreams, but for some, it is a place of unjust and loneliness. For Curley’s wife, this is her everyday reality. The story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck starts off with the two main characters Lennie and George. They were running away from their old town, Weed, in search of a new job on the ranch. George is much like a role model and guardian to Lennie, who is mentally unstable. The ranch is filled with men and is own by Curley and his father. They continue their journey in search of a better future. They meet many minor characters like Curley’s wife who stands out the most. She is the only women on the ranch. It highlights how the woman is most commonly at fault for the troubles of the world. A serious real example is an event of a rape. The fault is often time placed on the woman (victim) along with the actual rapist. The woman is accused of wearing revealing clothing or being intoxicated. This is meaningful to the world we live in because a lot of times these cases are set aside and not talked about as they are not viewed as “important”. Also, in the scene when the guys avoid dealing with Curley’s wife, it resembles the inequality of the genders. A problem that is still dealt with is the equal pay between male and females. Studies show that for the same job, men tend to get paid higher than women for the stereotype that men are stronger and therefore can do more.
